Scholarships
Each year during its Regional Conference, the Southwestern Region of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. awards scholarships that are open to Alumnae and Undergraduate Sorors, Philos, and Rhoers who demonstrate both academic excellence and financial need. The awards include the Southwestern Region Rhoer Award and the Southwestern Region Philo Award, two Southwestern Regional Scholarships, along with the National Education Fund Lizzie B. Miller Scholarship. The region also provides two need-based scholarships and two graduate scholarships.
To be eligible for these scholarships, applicants must be current members or affiliates of the Southwestern Region of Sigma Gamma Rho and recommended by their sponsoring graduate chapter. Specific criteria apply to each award category.
Special awards include the Quindonell Stinson Robertson Highest Academic Achievement Award for graduating undergraduates with the highest academic achievement, the Dr. Patricia Hayes Hiller Academic and Volunteerism Award for academic achievement and volunteerism, the Soror Janet Elaine Youngblood Armand Ruby Lee Patterson Tooley Elementary Education Award for those pursuing a degree in elementary education, the Rhoer Jade Clark Memorial Scholarship for Rhoers demonstrating leadership and community involvement, and the Philo Encourager Award to support Philos in their pursuit of higher education and eventual membership in the sorority.
In addition to scholarships offered by the Region, chapters also award scholarships that are open to their members and affiliates as well as the community.
